Fredson Bowers's old-spelling critical edition of the dramatic works of Thomas Dekker made its pioneer appearance in the years II96I. Some time in that period I was told that the commentary volumes were in the hands ofJohn Crow, who certainly had all the skills needed for a superb commentary, except the drive to put his knowledge into print. The critical old-spelling text of the play is based on a collation of ten copies of the first edition and six of the second from libraries in the United States and Great Britain.
